Deja que te lleve el viento

During my time here in Kuala Lumpur I’ve met plenty of incredible people. Before I arrived I was a bit worried if I’ll find some new friends, because I was aware that I would be different here and maybe people couldn’t accept it, only because I’m white. But all turned out well, I found friends in my English school and some of them are amazing, they are people who I’ll never forget my entire life.
I remember my first day in my English course, I was a bit nervous but when I was sitting in the class I already felt better. Gradually more and more people were entering in the room and I felt how all they were looking at me. Some of they said hello, but others doesn’t. Then suddenly I heard a “Hi, are you new?” behind me, I turned around and I saw a boy sitting on the table behind me. For me he looked Chinese or Japanese but I was not sure. He told me that his name is Robert and that he is from Kazakhstan and also new in the school. Then we started to talk and I told him what I was doing in Malaysia. Later a boy in a yellow t-shirt came in, he looked at me, gave me his hand and introduced himself. His name was Uali and also from Kazakhstan. It was the first time that I realized that I had no idea how Kazakhstan people look like. They look like Chinese for me. Uali was really fascinated about the fact that I’m German and living in Spain. He was a really hyper and crazy person.
A few minutes later the teacher came in, another Chinese for me, and introduced himself… Mr. Junos. He looked in the round and asked who is new in the class, so Robert and I raised our hands. He asked me first to introduce myself and he also was fascinated about that I can speak so many languages and about the fact that I’m studying in Malaysia for a few months now. Then he began to teach and the hour passed very fast.
Claus, Alice and Huixian piked me up to go for lunch in a restaurant very near the school. The food was delicious and so cheap. One our later I had to go to school again. I went to the fifth floor of the building in the room number three, exactly how it was written on my paper. Only one boy was sitting there, Abood from Iemen, we started to talk but it was very difficult to understand him, I really couldn’t understand how he could be in my level. But he was very nice to me. Then a girl came in and sat next to me, her name was Rokhsareh from Iran and she also was really nice, from this day she always sat next to me. Gradually more and more people came in, Uali from the class before, five other boys and two girls. The boys started to ask me questions, I couldn’t answer because all were talking at the same time. And I noticed that the girls were looking bad at me, except of Rokhsareh. All of them started to tell me their names, but it was very difficult for me to remember all, because they had names which I never had heard before. Then suddenly the teacher came in, Ms. Hazel, she was the one who would teach us grammar. Her classes were very funny and interesting, she could teach us in a way that it’s not boring. The only thing I hated about her is that every day she wanted that we come in front of the class and talk 2 or 3 minutes about one topic, and it was always very difficult for me, because I’m shy in this type of things and I become very nervous. But I have to admit that every day it was a bit easier.
After grammar class we had writing class with Mr. H (yes his name is “H”, because apparently his real name is very difficult to pronounce). He always gave us a topic to write about and at the end of the class we had to give him our text, and the next day he returned it to us explaining to each of us what are our difficulties and how we can improve. Plenty of days I didn’t know what I could write, because I couldn’t concentrate. And the fact that someone is going to correct what I’m writing and later telling me what is wrong scared me a lot, because sometimes I felt that I’m only writing silly things. But Mr. H liked my writings, he told me that I can write very well if I really want.
So the days passed and after one week in the school I already felt a bit bored. But then I saw that a lot of people were interested in talking with me only because I’m from Europe, they were curious and they wanted to know things about Spain. So I decided to be nice and talk with them, and then I saw that all these people are very nice, it was very interesting to learn new things about them, how they live, how is the culture and religion in Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Iemen, Iran, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Turkey. Also with the girls I could talk nicely and they became my friends. It all started when we had to do an oral presentation and in my group were Aigerim (from Kazakhstan), Othman (from Iemen) and Ismael (from Sudan). Our topic was “Gay community. Is it a taboo? How can we provide gender equality?”. So we started to work on our presentation and Aigerim and I were every day better friends. She is also 18 years old and she has a similar character, maybe it’s why we understood us so good. Also Aigerim’s friend Sholpan was really nice and friendly to me. So this two Kazakh girls became very important to me during the time, and now we are planning that they come to visit me in Spain in summer.
Also outside the school we meet a couple of times and we had a lot of fun. We went to karaoke one day with a lot of students of my class and with Ms. Hazel. She has an incredible voice, we all were fascinated. Then one day I went with Abood, Aigerim, Sholpan, Donik, Othman and Huixian for ice skating in Sunway. We had a really good time, Aigerim and I managed to not fall down, and after 2 hours of skating all our feet were hurting. After that we all went to McDonalds, where we ate and talked hours and hours. Then an other day we went to Genting, a attraction park, which was a flop. We had to wait so many hours only to get in.. and then we had to go with a gondola, and it was a nightmare. It was very foggy and we couldn’t see anything, and it stopped in the middle…I almost had a heart attack! And when we finally arrived in the park it started to rain and we only could use one attraction. But also with this bad things the day was really nice because I was with them, and we had a lot of fun. Now, every time when I hear “Ai se eu te pego” I think about this day, because we were singing it the whole day. Then the good bye party for Aigerim and Sholpan also was a good day, but also sad because they went back to Kazakhstan. But I’m sure that one day we are going to see us again, because I believe that you meet a person twice in your life.
Also when my time in the school was very short, I enjoyed it a lot, and because of the people it was even better. I’ll remember every friend I made and every single moment we passed together. Because all they form part of my adventure in Malaysia, and I love and miss them all.

Christmas 2011/2012 is over. The most beautiful part of the year is over again… the days passed extremely fast and now we have to go back to the normal daily routine. Another year has to pass until we can feel again the beauty of Christmas. The delicious food, the decoration, the music, the presents, the relaxing evenings with family and friends doing nothing, the last minute shopping.. all that and more, see you next year!
This year I passed the holidays in Kuala Lumpur, a great experience. It was the first time I didn’t celebrated with my parents and sister and very far from home. But it was nice to see how my uncle, aunt and cousin manage to celebrate it in more than 35 degrees, and I enjoyed these days. We didn’t go out for two weeks (except for New Years Eve) because KL is a mix of cultures, this means that there isn’t Christmas feeling at all on the streets. Malaysia is a Muslim country, so Christmas isn’t such as important like in Europe, and here are living a lot of Indian and Chinese people who have their own celebrations. But for us Christmas is very important and we didn’t wanted to lose the traditions, so we closed up ourselves in our house, switched on the air condition and celebrated in calm and harmony like we would do it in Germany.
Christmas Eve was very nice, I enjoyed it a lot. My cousin and I were wearing black long dresses, very elegant. We had fondue for dinner with meet, fish, vegetables and some nice dips. I think I never have eaten so much… I felt so full afterward. Then “Santa came” and we had to sing two or three songs and wish merry Christmas to each other. Finally we could open our presents. I didn’t expected so much presents for me, it was really nice from them. I get a bag for my camera which I wanted for so long time, an ICE Watch, two pendants for my Pandora bracelet, DVDs, necklaces, a perfume and a table for my laptop.
Also the following days we dressed up elegant for dinner, Alice cooked a lot of delicious food, and on Boxing day we had a huge turkey which we shared with two of Huixian’s friends and a friend of Claus and Alice. Afterward we always watched movies.. we’ve watched so many. Finally I could watch “Water for elephants”, “The other woman”, “Love and other drugs”, etc.
On New Years Eve we only crossed the road to The Curve, the big shopping center with bars and restaurants, and ate dinner in “The Laundry Bar”. We also had planned to stay the whole night and wait for the countdown there because it was announced a famous DJ. But the music was horrible. Inside there were playing a type of music, and outside (on the terrace) another type of music, so the sound was harmful for the ears. We decided to go one floor higher to “Malones”, another bar, and there it was much better. We passed the night talking, drinking and laughing. Then at midnight we went outside to see the firework, and it was amazing. We were standing in the perfect place, because from there we could see different fireworks from different places… we were circled in firework!
But always good things come to an end. Christmas officially ended on the 6th of January, when it’s the celebration about the 3 Kings. I hope next year it’s going to be so nice like this year, or even better. And I wish snow and “Glühwein” for next Christmas :-)

New space to share my photographies, texts and experiences. I want to write down all the things happening in my life as much as possible, and I don’t know how long this tumblr is going to survive, but I’m hopping for a long long time. It would be great to read it in some years, when I’m older, and remember all the good and maybe bad things. It’s going to be like my online diary.
Let’s start with a little introduction about me.. I’m Kim and 18 years old, I’m German but actually I’ve been living in Spain my whole life, in a little town near the Mediterranean sea called Empuriabrava. Last year I finished high school and this September I’m going to start studying at the university. Finally, after thinking a lot of months and changing my mind a lot of times, I decided that I want to study tourism management, somewhere in Germany, because I love to travel. The best would be if I could study in Hannover or Berlin because I have family there. In March I have to start writing my applications.
At the moment I’m in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, staying at my uncle’s, auntie’s and cousin’s house. I was planning this trip already maybe two years ago, and I finally did it, I’m staying here for four months. I wanted to see some different things, different people, learn more about cultures and religions and improve my English. Also I wanted to leave home for a while, because I think that is the perfect age to travel and collect some new experiences.
I’m going to upload here all my impressions, experiences and new things I have learnt during this great period of my life, and all what is following afterwards.
